This is brilliant, what a wealth of information here! My husband is the great great great grandson of Edwin Ridout via Henry Archard Ridout then Lucy Laura Louise Ridout. In 18 October blog you mention that Edwin was rather good looking, does that mean you have seen a picture of him? Really fascinating reading, thank you for sharing it.

      Hi Alison

Thank you for dropping by; I’m very glad that you liked the blog and found it interesting :-). Yes, I do know what Edwin looked like – I have two photographs of him and his wife Laura Ann (nee Archard). The earliest photos are of them in probably the mid 1870s when they were quite young (Edwin being about 40 or so and Laura a little older). The second photo is dated about 1905 and shows the couple together with other members of the family in a garden somewhere. I am guessing that you would like to see these? If so, just let me know. Incidentally, if it’s not obvious from the posts, Edwin and Laura were my maternal grandfather’s own grandparents and hence my great great grandparents. I would be very interested to hear more from you as there are not many descendents of Henry Archard (that I know of, I mean). I would love to know if YOU have any photos or anecdotes too. Let me know if you would like to pursue this and I will write to your personal email address if you like …. Karen
